At the age of 24 I finished my Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design and quickly scored a job as a junior graphic designer in Alazraki & Associates, an advertising agency in Mexico City where I am originally from. This first experience in "the real world" was hard and I learned a lot about advertising and deadlines, but after a while I realized that I had other interests.
With incredibly good timing, my friend Gabriel Sanchez offered me a job in his graphic design studio "Strategas Graficos". Here, I was given more control over my projects and was encouraged to propose ideas and concepts. My very first project in Strategas was designing a CD cover, and just like that, a long-time dream became real. Because I am such a big music fan I will always be grateful to Gabriel for that first contact with the music industry.
Years later and with a few more CDs in my portfolio I was ready to move on and got myself a job at Sony Music Mexico. Unfotunately, timing wasn't great this time and I moved to Canada shortly after. But good things happen and as I was settling down in Toronto, I got a call from Sony Mexico asking me to keep on working for them on a freelance basis, from Canada. Today, I am still part of the Sony Music - now Sony BMG - family.
In Toronto I enrolled myself in Ryerson University and Centennial College's New Media continuing education programs to upgrade my skills while looking for a job.
Though it wasn't easy, I found a job and am currently employed at Medicard Finance doing all their graphics (printed and digital), but I still freelance for Sony BMG Mexico constantly and have started my own Toronto based client list.
Experiencing the opportunity of living in a foreign country has been a lifetime highlight and one that has affected my creative process in a very positive way. I enjoy my job more than ever.
